The brief
The client came to me wanting a custom design in my style. Together we settled on a kite, the elegant bird of prey, drawn in an engraving style for the right side of the chest.
The approach
The kite is perched on a branch with its head turned to the side. Engraved hatching builds the feathers in layers, from short strokes on the head and breast to long, sweeping lines through the wings and forked tail, while a bold outline keeps the silhouette strong. The design follows the shape of the chest, with the tail running down and out towards the side so it moves naturally with the body.
